Words of Advice for Freelancers

November 10, 2009

As graduation continues to draw closer, I have been doing a lot of research on really getting into freelance illustration. The joys of freelance patiently await virtually every aspiring illustrator. Whether you love it and make freelance your main focus or you avoid it like the seasonal flu, (taking mass amounts of vitamin C and other immunity boosters) just like that flu, you are likely to get bitten by the freelance bug.

In my search for information, I have found some very thoughtful and insightful discussions. One particularly well written post I found comes from Dave Roman, an accomplished illustrator and assistant editor of Nickelodeon Magazine. Dave Roman’s Advice for building a career as a freelance artist…, while it is a heavy post, has so much valuable information that it is definitely worth a look. It got me wondering about what my fellow Illustrators might have found in their searching. So, I’d like to hear from you too.  Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
