The Fine (Vector) Art Experience

January 23, 2010

I saw this on Facebook in August of last year and it has been lurking in the recesses of my own personal locker. I almost forgot about it altogether. Michael Grills’ latest project, Interesting People, is online (and has been for a bit now) and ready for viewing.

The website is a sneak peak to his upcoming gallery show in March at the Endeavor Digital and New Media Art Gallery & Event Space in Alberta. He has created a series of vector paintings that will be printed on a 60 x 36 inch canvas and next to each canvas there will be a video display that shows the creation of the piece illustrator stroke by blessed illustrator stroke (granted the video is sped up, but still how cool is that). I would love to see this in person but the web will have to do, for now.

His work is amazing, anyone who has tried vector portraiture can easily agree, and his concept for this particular project is just awesome. Michael is one of a few artists that is really pushing us to experience digital art in a traditional setting. I encourage everyone to check it out.
