Warhol Week in Tucson

March 1, 2010

Hello there! As some of you may know, the art community in Tucson is buzzing about all of the Andy Warhol-related events happening around town lately.

Last Friday, there was a Hip Pop Warhol tribute dance party at the Rialto (which I heard was pretty rad). Saturday marked the opening of the Life and Legends Warhol portfolio exhibition at the Tucson Museum of Art. I missed the opening, but I will definitely be going to check out the show soon. The TMA is located at 140 N. Main (downtown). This is a selection from the Bank of America private collection of art (one of the largest corporate collections). The show runs through July 3rd. Bring your student ID for a discounted admission.

Another Warhol event coming up will be a showing of his film “Lonesome Cowboys” at the Loft Cinema on March 4 at 8:00 pm. There is a costume contest happening right before the screening and yes, there will be prizes. “Pop Goes the Loft” tickets are $10 for the general public, and $8 for Loft Members and TMA members.

I hope to see some Art Center folks at the screening! Have a very Warhol week, everyone.
