TACDC instructor takes top prize at First Friday Film Fest!

March 17, 2010

Julie Rustad, Creative Director of 24-7 Creative Solutions, President of AD2 Tucson, and who is teaching Brand Identity at the Art Center Design College this semester appears to have yet another credit to add to that long list… winner of First Friday Shorts Film Fest at the Loft Cinema!

[Student note: I am actually in Julie’s Brand ID class this term, and I was shocked to find out that this was her first foray into the Loft’s First Fridays! Let this be a bit of encouragement to all of the burgeoning filmmakers out there.]

The winning film that she and her husband Jon Rustad put together a very funny parody of Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures where the paranormal meets Cute Overload as rescue kitties, Levi & Ghetti Rustad act as the hilarious ghost hunting team of Zak, Nick, and Aaron. Footage includes, orb, EVPs, and apparitions the kitties encounter on their ghost adventure. Jon & Julie Rustad of Words Become Pictures (Design and Animation) are the proud owners of the kitties and creators of this short spoof!

Julie and Jon have now created an office “Feline Ghost Adventures” YouTube channel under the moniker Words Become Pictures

Check it out to see some other funny videos they have collected including the hilarious “Ugly Furniture” ad that First Friday host and Art Center Animation Instructor Max Cannon highlighted during this month’s competition at The Loft Cinema.

And, one more note on the ridiculously long list of accomplishments, Julie Rustad is a master at rochambeau, which is what truly cinched this for her and Jon. Three films were in the running for the top prize. She took out her 2 opponents a single round of rock-paper-scissors. Any doubts in the crowd regarding who deserved to win were gone after that.
