Reminder: Erin V. Sotak Artist Talk this Friday

March 24, 2010

Hello all! Just a quick reminder today that Erin V. Sotak is giving an artist talk this Friday at 1:30 in the Florence Quater Gallery. Also, later that day is a reception for her show in the gallery, from 5-7pm. As always, these openings are free and open to the public, so feel free to bring your friends.

I actually had the pleasure of seeing a sneak peek of Erin’s exhibition (which is now open in the FQG anytime the school is open) last week during spring break. The show is really different from any of the other visiting artists the Art Center has welcomed thus far – Erin does a lot of performance work, which is a medium we have not seen much of in the FQG. I recommend checking out the gallery when you have some real time to spend looking (you’ll need 30-45 minutes to see everything). There are several slideshows containing 10-20 performance stills each, as well as some readymades and talking installations (yes, talking). I actually got to chat with Erin about her work and art in general for a bit last week while I was around campus. She’s incredibly articulate when talking about her work, and super nice, so her artist talk is something I am really looking forward to.

Also, because the opening reception is happening at a time when we normally have figure drawing sessions, figure drawing has been moved to tonight from 7-9pm in the Fine Arts building. These sessions are also free, so if you’ve never been tonight is the perfect night to go. You just need something to draw on and something to draw with.
